Safety tips

WantTutors connects people — we don't run background checks on individual providers. A few habits keep every session safe.

For students and parents

• Keep your first messages on WantTutors. Don't share your home address until you're comfortable.
• Meet first in a public place — a library, café, or online video call.
• Parents of students under 18: be part of scheduling, and stay nearby for in-person sessions.
• Ask about credentials, and for references if it matters to you.
• Never pay with gift cards or wire transfers, and never send money before you've met.

For tutors, mentors and coaches

• When working with a minor, communicate with the parent or guardian about times and locations.
• Prefer public places or online sessions for first meetings.
• Rate your proficiency honestly — students choose you based on it.

If something feels wrong

Use Report or Block on any profile or in a chat. If anyone is in danger, contact local emergency services first.
